SAMMANFALLET takes a special interest in questions regarding lost artworks, iconoclasm, public monuments, and the role of the artwork in times of political turbulence. With a specific focus on Gustave Courbet and his various roles in regards to these questions, as in the demolishing of the Vendôme Column during the Paris Commune and the consequences it had for Courbet’s personal life. This story is contrasted against the origin story of his painting Les Casseurs de pierres (The Stone Breakers) and its dissapearance amongst the rubble during the bombing of Dresden.
